The Private Pilot Manual is your primary source for initial study and review on your journey to becoming a private pilot. The intuitive organization and colorful presentation of the manual helps you learn quickly from the start. The text contains complete and concise explanations of the fundamental concepts every private pilot needs to know, with the subjects arranged in a logical manner that builds upon previously introduced topics. You can expand your knowledge of specific subjects and the world of aviation by exploring the Discovery Insets strategically placed throughout the chapters. To help you understand how your mind and body function during flight, human factors principles are presented in Human Element Insets. Throughout the manual, concepts that directly relate to FAA test questions are described in FAA Question Insets. To help you review material more effectively, key terms are highlighted throughout the text and listed at the end of each section along with a checklist that summarizes important concepts. Additionally, you can evaluate your understanding of material by completing the associated questions found at the end of each section.
"How-to" guide for what you should be doing in the cockpit during each phase of flight!
Written by an experienced instructor and pilot examiner, Cockpit Procedures provides a solid understanding of the underlying principles for, and detailed descriptions of the checklists and routines used in many flight schools. Readers will find it contains a practical definition of airmanship, and covers what good habits to develop, effective workload management, and even what you should have in your flight bag. Cockpit Procedures is about cockpit actions and thinking, giving readers the rationale behind common procedures that are standard practice in the training environment and in the airlines.
Both airplanes and helicopters are covered, delivering the essential aspects of effective training — technical knowledge, practical application and context learning. Cockpit Procedures targets the pilot just beginning his/her career, yet many of the philosophies and practical techniques taught here are so fundamental and powerful they will carry a pilot right through to retirement. While encouraging structure and discipline regarding procedures, the author does not merely check off lists of dry facts — Cockpit Procedures is also fun to read and Chris Burger keeps his readers focused with lively description and his knack for getting down to essentials in such a way that they stay with you.
Chris R. Burger is an instructor and pilot examiner, flies both airplanes and helicopters, was previously an Air Traffic Controller, and runs a flying school in South Africa. As a flight instructor whose academic background includes aviation psychology expertise, Chris works to promote a culture of safety and teach pilots how to stay out of trouble in the skies — a task well-served by more than 2,500 hours of instructor experience in over 80 different aircraft models.

"The best book about flying airplanes I have ever read." — Ernest K. Gann
Developing and maintaining proficiency at the controls is a key concern for pilots at all levels. In The Proficient Pilot, award-winning author and veteran airline captain and flight instructor Barry Schiff provides a wealth of valuable information based on his years of experience, concentrating on procedures and techniques not covered in other aviation books.
In his foreword to the book, Ernest K. Gann writes, "I recommend you heed Schiff's messages because they are written by a true aviator... Schiff is a true pro, and he covers the whole lofty field of airmanship with the skill and the dignity it deserves."
Illustrated throughout with helpful charts and line drawings, The Proficient Pilot should be required reading for all who fly.
Barry Schiff's lessons are based solidly on principles and mechanics, filtered through his 25,000 hours of wide-ranging, hands-on flying experience. Diverse topics such as "Deep Stalls," the "Black-Hole Approach," the myth of "The Downwind Turn," expectations vs. reality, CRM, and a short course that effectively describes the principles involved in flying jet airplanes. Also flying tips for "fun and profit" and some personal, memorable moments from Schiff's own world of flying. Foreword by Bob Hoover. Soft cover, 360 pages, illustrated, indexed.
The essentials of a complete multi-engine training program with study questions, written exam, and syllabus. Covers the aerodynamic fundamentals that govern multi-engine flight.

This is the fun stuff-taking off, landing, and maneuvering the airplane with precision and grace. Flight maneuvers are challenging, rewarding, essential for safe flying...they are the backbone of the practical exam or checkride with the examiner. Demonstration of proficiency in these is required before you pass the final test to earn your pilot certificate. Flight Maneuvers Virtual Test Prep covers each of the maneuvers in the FAA Practical Test Standards (PTS) for Private, Sport, Commercial, and CFI certification, supported with high-defininition air-to-air video, 3D and animated graphics, special effects, experienced flight instructors and pilots with real-world tips from the tarmac, airport and cockpit for focused and exciting learning.
Each lesson defines the task, operation or maneuver with an objective; each is demonstrated airborne or on the surface, as applicable, with step-by-step analysis. The course follows the FAA recommended techniques and summarizes the FAA completion standards for each maneuver. A comprehensive flight school review, Flight Maneuvers Virtual Test Prep takes the learning out of the cockpit so you can focus on your practice when you climb into the pilot seat.

Final Preparation
The Commercial license preparation manual from Kershner's "The Flight Manuals Series." Updated and edited by his son William C. Kershner.
The Advanced Pilot’s Flight Manual has long been a standard reference for pilots transitioning to advanced models and types and preparing for the Commercial Pilot knowledge and flight tests. This book bridges the gap between theory and practical application, covering the fundamentals of airplane aerodynamics and aircraft performance. Rules of thumb are used throughout as a means of presenting a clearer picture of the recommended performance parameters, and increasing understanding of the variable factors that affect aircraft operations such as altitude and temperature. Knowledge of these thumb rules will enable pilots to maximize performance when operating faster aircraft and at higher altitudes.
Chapters are dedicated to:
Airplane performance and stability for pilots
Checking out in advanced models and types
Emergencies and unusual situations
Advanced navigation
High-altitude Operations
Preparing for the commercial knowledge and practical tests
The Flight Instructor’s Manual is an invaluable reference for flight instructor applicants and serves as an indispensable guide for both new and experienced instructors (CFIs). The Fifth Edition is edited by William K. Kershner's son, William C. Kershner. This manual is organized so that each chapter serves as a stand-alone reference for a particular phase of instruction, allowing each to be used as “how to instruct” guides on topics such as fundamentals of flight instruction (FOI), presolo instruction, first solo to the private certificate, advanced VFR instruction, introduction to aerobatic instruction, and instrument instruction. The book also features a comprehensive spin syllabus, material on multi-engine airplanes, instructing international students, teaching ground school, and setting up tests.
Teaching tips and common student errors provided for:
Fundamentals of Flight Instruction (FOI)
Presolo
First Solo to the Private Certificate
Complex Single-Engine Airplanes
Light Twins
Spins
Aerobatics
Instruments
With over six decades of experience as pilot-in-command in more than 100 types and models of airplanes, Bill Kershner was FAA/General Aviation Flight Instructor of the Year in 1992, and named Elder Statesman of Aviation in 1997. He was inducted into the Flight Instructor Hall of Fame in 1998. His son, William C. Kershner, was soloed by his father, and holds Flight Instructor and Airline Transport Pilot certificates. He has flown 22 types of airplanes in his over 10,000 hours of flight time, ranging from Cessna 150s to Boeing 777s.
Traditionally known as the "blue maneuvers book," this handbook complies with current practical test standards and regulations.
