Umfassendes Buch über die Praxis des Instrumentenflugs im europäischen Raum. Es basiert auf einer vielbeachteten Jahreskolumne des Autors, die im fliegermagazin unter gleichem Namen erschienen ist.
This book is an absolutely practical and comprehensive description of all IFR procedures and everything that goes with them, such as the important interface between pilot and air traffic control, dealing with IFR-relevant weather and decision-making in critical flight phases.
In addition to the structured and detailed presentation of standard IFR procedures, practical solutions are proposed and the underlying relationships illuminated. Many of the practical methods and techniques have been tried and tested by the author himself, often refined and developed his own patterns of action. It is precisely these techniques that he passes on to his students in practical flight instruction. With the summary of these practices, a guide is finally available that enables pilots to build up and deepen their flying skills. This guide is equally suitable for student pilots and all pilots who fly professionally and safely and do not just want to "get by somehow".
The book is designed for self-study and for trying out, because all methods and approaches are described step by step and comprehensibly.

25 years ago the first edition of the "Flying Guide" was launched in the USA. Eight successful editions were published every two years. Professional requirements forced a break in 2001, so that the eighth edition, supplemented by current inserts, remained on the market until 2012. But since 2001 so much has changed that a new edition was finally due. With the 9th edition, a completely new book has been created. Today the Internet and modern communication technologies have replaced many things that were standard for pilots in 2001. Especially in the USA, offers have emerged that would have belonged to the realm of science fiction ten years ago. Many basic conditions have also changed. American general aviation is a 76 billion USD industry and European pilots still experience it as a paradise for training and flying holidays. But the fear of terrorist attacks occasionally forces us to adopt new behaviour patterns that must be observed. The American training system has been adapted to the requirements of modern GA aircraft and the latest findings from accident research and education. However, the procedures that holders of EU and US licences must follow when transferring their licences have also changed. In particular, the harmonisation and reinvention of European aviation law brings with it many changes that are hotly debated among pilots. The Guide to Flying in the USA describes the current facts and looks at the developments that can be expected in the near future. The European AOPA is involved in this development through various committees. As Vice President of the German AOPA, the author can therefore contribute a great deal of first-hand information. Operators of US registered aircraft will also find a valuable guide. In the end, the fun should not be neglected: For the flying holidays in Florida, there are 36 very personal tips for excursions as well as a chapter on flights to the Bahamas and across the Atlantic, so there is enough material for much more than just a flying holiday. If you come into contact with American licenses or aircraft, fly or train in the USA for business or private reasons, the 10th edition will again be a guide and valuable reference book.
In recent years, ultra-light aviation has experienced an enormous upswing, thanks not least to new materials, new flying equipment, leaner training and, above all, lower costs. Many people who shy away from the "classic" PPL for cost reasons are getting to their goal with ultralight flying: flying. This updated, comprehensively revised and expanded edition not only provides the complete knowledge necessary to obtain the UL pilot license, but also the technical background knowledge necessary to understand the content.Clear illustrations facilitate reading, with exam-relevant parts highlighted graphically. The content is based on the author's experience gained in thousands of theoretical and practical hours as a pilot and in the training of flight instructors as well as in his work as a mathematics and physics teacher. He also wrote the very successful volumes "Flug ohne Motor" and "Motorflug kompakt".
This book presents the large amount of information on helicopter aerodynamics in a clear and understandable way. The numerous graphics convey knowledge without burdening the reader with formulas.
This is the FAA's primary pilot resource for instrument flight rules (IFR) covering everything pertinent to operating an aircraft in instrument meteorological conditions (IMC) or without reference to outside visuals, relying solely on the information gleaned from the cockpit. Readers will find chapters on the national airspace system, the air traffic control system, human factors, aerodynamics, flight instruments, flight maneuvers for IFR operations, navigation, emergency operations, as well as helicopter operations and more. The material in this manual applies to both conventional "steam-gauge" analog instrumentation and the "glass cockpit" electronic flight displays found in advanced aircraft. Information is well organized into separate coverage of the traditional "6-pack" and discussions of pictorial "tape" displays. Advanced systems are covered, including flight management systems, the primary flight display (PFD) and multi-function display (MFD), synthetic vision, and traffic advisory systems. The book also features a synopsis of instrument clearance shorthand, as well as an instrument training lesson guide. The Instrument Flying Handbook is designed for use by flight instructors, pilots preparing for the Instrument Rating FAA Knowledge and Practical Exams, and instrument-rated pilots looking for a refresher or preparing for an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC). Illustrated throughout with detailed, full-color drawings and photographs; comprehensive glossary and index.
Subjects covered in detail include an overall description of the aircraft, limitations, handling characteristics, and loading/performance data. All the information is gleaned from flying experiences by experts in the industry, and is presented in an easy-to-read format. Pilots will find each guide in the series an invaluable companion to the aircraft's Flight Manual and an excellent sourcebook for the aircraft's principal characteristics.
AFE aircraft checklists remain unique in having been designed and written by a flying instructor experienced on each particular type.In keeping with AFE’s design philosophy, every checklist is thoroughly researched and verified against manufacturer recommendations, standard training procedures, operator practice and practical operating experience.Particularly popular with flying school operators, AFE checklists have wiro binding and cutaway titles for ease of use and the emergency sections are clearly delineated in red. Also included are a crosswind component calculation graph and take-off & landing distance factors.• Designed and written by an instructor experienced on type, based on manufacturer’s recommendations• Single wiro binding and cut-away sections headings for ease of use• Emergency sections clearly marked.Include crosswind component graph and performance factorsCessna C-172 Checklist (suitable for all Cessna and Reims 172 models up to 172N)
