Why not fly across national borders?
Whether it's a big trip abroad lasting several days or a day trip to a nearby destination, traveling "cross border" is not that complicated and will definitely broaden your flying horizons.
Here you will find an overview of the appropriate equipment.
Cards for other European countries
Even though there are more and more digital maps available, paper maps are essential.
For foreign countries you can choose between different charts.
The VFR chart series AIR MILLION in scale 1:1.000.000 covers all of Europe and is perfect as a planning and overview map. » See all available editions «
The ICAO charts of each country are designed according to ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) guidelines. This means they use uniformly defined colors and symbols. However, there are also many national peculiarities and thus the various country editions differ in their design. » See all available editions «
Those who appreciate the convenience of a uniform design should use the V500 aeronautical charts. These charts are published jointly by DFS and Eisenschmidt every year.Â
The big advantage: in their quality and design they correspond to the aeronautical chart ICAO 1:500,000 Germany and are ideally suited for VFR flights to neighboring countries. Due to the selected sheet cut, each neighboring foreign country is widely mapped on the country editions.
The V500 charts contain the latest and currently valid topographic and air traffic control information such as: VFR reporting points, airfields with name, location identifier and frequency as well as runway length and alignment and aerodrome circuit location, aerodrome circuit information, aeronautical obstructions and maximum elevation figures and much more.
