2021-05 DFS VFR Pilot Info
Compliance with the "Airspace C Berlin" airspace structure
With effect from 04.11.2020, a newly designed airspace C Berlin, including flexibly usable airspace elements C (HX), was introduced in connection with the commissioning of the new Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER).
Unfortunately, a large number of airspace violations (entries of VFR aircraft into airspace C without clearance) have since been registered by DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH.
05.05.2021 - Please also remember that the deactivated airspace areas C (HX) can be reactivated at any time. At the time of activation, the areas must have been exited or the clearances to continue flying in airspace C must have been obtained. Activation will be announced on the VFR ATIS or communicated by radio contact with the FIS flight information service. Requests for through flight clearances can also be sent to the relevant FIS sector.
DFS therefore urgently emphasises compliance with the C-Berlin airspace structure!
Independent of a possible hazard to other road users, DFS must send a corresponding airspace violation report to the Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Navigation Services (BAF) for every recorded case. The airspace infringement is treated as an administrative offence by the BAF and will result in a corresponding investigation procedure.
Compliance with the established airspace structures and the associated rules and procedures serves the safety of all participants in air traffic.
