Eisenschmidt celebrates 140th company anniversary

The publishing house R. Eisenschmidt was founded in Berlin in September 1880. As early as 1909, the company distributed the first map for "Luftschiffer". Since then, Eisenschmidt has been an established name in general aviation. The anniversary is being celebrated with a major competition.

25.08.2020 - From military science literature to hiking maps and aviation publications. Even though the subject areas have changed over the decades, the core business has remained the same for 140 years: the publication and distribution of print media. Today, Eisenschmidt is a modern pilot's shop that specialises in the needs of pilots. In addition to the tried-and-tested aviation charts and manuals, digital products and pilot accessories have also found their way into the range.
The specialisation in aviation products emerged early on. In 1909, the first map for general aviation appeared, which was still in its infancy at the time. Lieutenant Colonel Moedebeck was the inventor of the "Karte für Luftschiffer". Eisenschmidt was chosen as the distribution partner due to its expertise in publishing and distribution.
Over the decades, Eisenschmidt was often the official distributor for maps published by state institutions in Germany and abroad. From 1961 onwards, close cooperation began with air traffic control, at that time still known as BFS (Bundesanstalt für Flugsicherung). Eisenschmidt produced and distributed aviation manuals, news for pilots and ICAO publications. When the company was put up for sale in 2013, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH.
Few companies in Germany can boast such a long company history. Due to the coronavirus, there will be no major celebrations on site this year, but such a special anniversary should not go unnoticed. That's why we are organising an anniversary promotion in September as a thank you for customers and all aviation enthusiasts. 140 years - 140 prizes: A competition will start on 1 September and 35 winners will be drawn each week. Anyone who answers the competition question correctly each week will have four chances to win one of the attractive non-cash prizes.
