Review AERO 2019
Pilots take centre stage: AERO 2019 in Friedrichshafen
The 27th AERO, which took place in Friedrichshafen from 10 to 13 April, set new records with 757 exhibitors from 40 countries and 32,100 visitors. The exhibition team from DFS, Eisenschmidt and Aviationexam can also look back on successful days.
April 2019 - For Eisenschmidt, the focus this year was on the new Learning Management System (LMS), which was presented together with Aviationexam. The workstations of the FIS pilots and the AIS-C staff were proven visitor magnets.
LMS and new UL question catalogue
The LMS offers flight schools and clubs uncomplicated administration and exam-related preparation for all licences. Many flight schools took the opportunity to have the system explained to them in detail on site. Aviationexam employees were on hand to answer questions about technical details.
Together with the German Aero Club e.V. (DAeC), Eisenschmidt has developed a UL question catalogue that will be published in the coming months. Also new since the trade fair is the PPL question catalogue in English.
A meeting was held with the state aviation authorities to discuss the Aviationexam examination software. The authorities already using the system were able to express their wishes and suggestions for improvement. Eisenschmidt and Aviationexam in turn presented their plans for the coming period.
Eisenschmidt achieved good sales with the sale of general aviation products such as maps, headsets and bags. Visitors were also pleased to receive informative brochures and guides such as the airspace structure poster, the training barometer and other "practical tips". Questions about DFS airspace publications, such as the depiction of the new frequencies on the ICAO chart, were also answered directly by the NfL office.
FIS and AIS-C
The Flight Information Service (FIS) and the aeronautical information service (AIS-C) were once again very well received. Visitors were able to gain exciting insights into the daily work of the FIS controllers and flight counsellors. There were also many questions about the centralisation of FIS services and their impact on pilots. The flight advisors were able to process visitors' current flight plans in a very practical way and explain the AIS portal. Numerous visitors also took the opportunity to thank them for their day-to-day service and support.
Exciting presentations
Eisenschmidt and DFS employees gave numerous presentations at the AERO Conferences. Topics such as "Awareness Campaign", "Pilot Communication" and "Trapped above the Clouds" were represented as well as the presentation of the work of the AIS-C. A new addition was a presentation on the challenges and opportunities for media-based student pilots. Panel discussions on the topics "Airspace E as in Echo, but not E as in simple" and "The flight controller, AFIS - responsibility and competence" provided an opportunity for an exciting and constructive exchange.
The next AERO will take place from 1 to 4 April 2020 in Friedrichshafen.
